OUR BACKGROUND
The Florida Biomedical Society was established in 1985 forming a statewide organization, including our five chapters, to bring together all the individual Biomeds (HTM) professionals from around the state of Florida. Since then, FBS has continued to evolve. The annual FBS symposium has become well known for its comprehensive educational opportunities, outstanding social events, and extensive and engaging vendor exhibits.
FBS offers several student scholarships, as well as scholarship opportunities for HTM professionals seeking CBET certification. OUR MISSION
The mission of the Florida Biomedical Society is to promote the principles of quality patient care through the efficient management or biomedical technologies to better serve the medical community and other professionals involved in patient care, and to promote the free exchange of ideas and information involved in the Biomedical Engineering Disciplines, and the Biomedical Professional role in the health care industry.
OUR KEY OBJECTIVES
To promote, encourage, and advance the training of Biomedical professionals.
Offer guidance and suggestions to those persons and organizations involved with biomedical education, certification, and employment.
To cooperate with and assist all persons and organizations who are interested in the betterment of the Biomedical Profession.
To disseminate ideas and solutions to problems to its membership.
To assist members in the growth and development of their biomedical programs by regular exchange of information, ideas, and experience through training programs and symposiums.
To establish contact, and promote better communication between manufacturers and Biomedical Instrumentation departments.
To promote improved understanding and cooperation with institutional administrations.
OUR GOVERNANCE
The Florida Biomedical Society is governed by the FBS Constitution and ByLaws. The Bylaws our formed by the FBS Board of Directors which consisting of: the FBS President-elect, President, immediate Past President, Secretary and Treasurer(the executive board). In addition to executive board a duly appointed representative from each charter chapter of FBS (Currently 5 chapters.) rounds out the voting board. The FBS BOARD of DIRECTORS
The FBS Board of Directors is made up of volunteers from all of the local societies. Each year the FBS membership nominates from their members and holds elections for the positions of: President Elect, Secretary, and Treasurer.
The FBS membership nominates and elects one of their members to be President Elect. This person will automatically advance to the position of President upon completion of a one year term as President Elect, and can act as a stand in for the President.
After completing one year as President, this individual automatically assumes the position of Past President . The role of the Florida Biomedical Society’s Past President is to act as a stand in for the FBS President when needed and to provide advice to the FBS President and Board of Directors.
The other two elected positions on the FBS Board are Secretary and Treasurer.
FBS’s Local Representatives are appointed or elected by their local societies. Their role is to act as liaisons for the local biomedical societies to FBS and provide direction and leadership as a voting member of FBS Board of Directors.
The remaining positions on the FBS board (Symposium Director, Education Coordinator, Vendor Ambassador, Webmaster, Newsletter Editor and Historian) are appointed by the President with the consent of the Board and are non-voting members. These positions provide vital support for organization of FBS functions and communication with our members and sponsors.
OUR MEMBERSHIP
Full membership is granted to individual members of FBS local societies.
If an individual is professionally engaged in biomedical (HTM) activities and is not able to be a member of a local society, they may join FBS as a Member at Large. At Large members may vote and/or hold office in the society.
Corporate Affiliation membership is available to individuals who represent firms that provide products and/or services to healthcare facilities, i.e., representatives of manufacturers, vendors, contractors, distributors and consultants.
