John Alvenus, CBET

John holds an A.S. in Biomedical Technology and B.S. in Business Administration. He completed his CBET in 2005 and has worked in the Biomedical Engineering field for 17 years. As a clinical engineering coordinator at Shands UF, John helped to initiate an equipment donation program with proceeds donated to continuing education through NEFAMI. John has played an instrumental role in sustaining the local chapter by facilitating educational presentations and serving as NEFAMI's treasurer for five years. He works after hours for BioMed Techs, Inc. John is an avid Gators fan and supports local charities including Poker for Pets, United Way, and Westside Church.

The Board of Directors for Florida Biomedical Society congratulates John on his recognition as 2007 BMET of the Year for the state of Florida. We acknowledge his years of service, commitment to continuing education, and example of leadership within the Biomedical Community. John is truly a deserving recipient and we are proud to be a part of the company he keeps.

The Florida Biomedical Society recognizes the dedication, achievements, and personal contributions of outstanding biomeds through the annual BMET of the Year Award. The local chapters of FBS present nominees to the board of directors for consideration, and from the individuals nominated the board selects the recipient of the award. Criteria includes: evidence of professional achievement, commitment to continuing education and professional development, and contributions to community. Nominees are recognized with certificates of excellence in clinical engineering from the Florida Biomedical Society and are invited to participate in the annual FBS Awards Banquet held in conjunction with the Symposium & Trade Show. BMET of the Year is announced during the awards banquet, and recipient is formally presented the BMET of the Year plaque.
